LIVERPOOL – “POTJIE KOS” FUNDRAISING EVENT
WHY DO WE NEED TO HAVE THIS FUNDRAISING EVENT?
As you are all aware, we have recently succeeded with the integration of the two separate communities of Ndlovumzi and that of Liverpool into one dynamic community, who are determined and focused on taking responsibility for their own safety and security, and management of the applicable road infrastructure as well as to create a vibrant and supportive community.
Moreover, by achieving the aforementioned we have by default began with a process of branding the Liverpool (Ndlovumzi Nature Reserve & Liverpool properties) residential area as one of the most exclusive and sought after residential areas in Hoedspruit.
Considering that the crime levels in the Liverpool residential area is now (which can only be attributed to the Liverpool Farm Watch activities) the lowest in the region, and we having a community that meets regularly and participating very well in community projects to uplift our infrastructure – it is quite understandable that our property values can almost double within the next year or two.
Obviously we will need a substantial amount of additional capital each year to achieve our onerous objectives, particularly in respect of our Liverpool Farm Watch activities (radios, lights & other equipment) and to repair the Liverpool roads on a regular basis as well as to upgrade the general appearance and image of the Liverpool area.
In this regard we have decided to host an annual “Potjie Kos Competition” in Hoedspruit to raise funds that will finance our objectives as discussed above.
HOW MUCH CAPITAL WOULD WE LIKE TO RAISE, AND HOW WOULD THESE FUNDS BE UTILIZED?
It is our intention to raise at least R500 000 per annum with this event. The idea is to approach 100 corporate sponsors to each sponsor a potjie for an amount of R5000.
The funds will first and foremost be utilized to properly repair our road infrastructure after the devastating floods of January. We will also look at the possibility of buying our own grader from our annual fund raising activities.
Secondly, we will buy all the necessary equipment (radios and patrolling lights, etc) for our Liverpool Farm Watch to at least ensure that all permanent residents have a radio to communicate in a case of an emergency.
The remaining funds will then be equally divided for the benefit of Ndlovumzi and the Liverpool residents respectively, to fund individual projects to achieve the overall Liverpool residential area objectives.
WHO WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO RAISE THE FUNDS?
Each camp owner in Ndlovumzi Nature Reserve and Liverpool are requested to commit and secure corporate sponsors for the “Potjie Kos” fundraising event.
If less than 60% of camp owners fail to commit or succeed in securing corporate sponsors for the event, we will cancel the event forthwith.
It is important to note that this “Potjie Kos” fund raising event is vital for us to achieve our objectives, and we must understand that it is for the benefit of all of us. We will therefore count on maximum participation of all, as appose to only a few that does all the work.
In support of our motivation we would like to mention that we have tested the market and 11 businesses have been approached with the idea, and every single one of them have pledged their support and commitment.
Any notion that indicates that the fund raising event will not be achievable or that there will possibly be unwillingness from the corporate or business industry to support this fund raising event is therefore respectfully blown out of the water.
So, let us all work together and make this a reality.
WHEN AND WHERE WOULD THIS “POTJIE KOS”EVENT BE HELD?
We plan to host the event in the beginning or middle of November in the main street of Hoedspruit. We will request one of the four lanes to be closed by the authorities, and will have 100 individual potjies brewing at the same time.
The event will simultaneously create a buzz and energy in the local Hoedspruit community as well as create a huge awareness for Liverpool and the dynamic nature of its residents.
WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTUAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT OF THE “POTJIE KOS” EVENT?
We will establish a committee from our permanent residents who will be responsible for all arrangements relating to the event.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE “POTJIE KOS” EVENT, BESIDES FROM RAISING FUNDS?
We would like to use this opportunity to promote philanthropy in general, and the Liverpool Estate residents’ commitment to charity as well as good corporate citizenship.
We will be making this a memorable day in the local Hoedspruit community’s annual diary as we intent to donate all the food to the poor of Hoedspruit. We will request from all local church groups to provide their poor families with meal tickets, which they can exchange for food at the event.
HOW WILL THE “POTJIE KOS” COMPETITION BE JUDGED?
The Judges for the “Potjie Kos” competition will consist of an independent team of 5 judges, who will be appointed by the organizing committee.
Each “Potjie” will be judged on the following criteria: appearance, aroma, texture, flavor, and overall impression.
Each “Potjie” will be given points out of then, based on the above criteria. The top three contestants will then be awarded with a Gold, Silver or Bronze Winner Certificate.
